How do I appoint new administrators for my site?

You're not limited to the "admin" account to make updates to your site. You can create new accounts to grant administrative rights to others if you'd like.

Global Administrators

Global administrators have full access to the site and can do everything the primary administrator can do. Be sure that you can trust a person before giving them the "keys to the castle", but keep in mind that everything is logged, so they will not be able to make changes without leaving a trail in the log. As long as these users know what their permitted scope is, you shouldn't see any problems.

There are two ways to create global administrators.

  1. If the person already has an account on your system, you can assign them administrative rights from the "Administrators" item of the "User Manager" menu. Just type their username in the "Add Administrator" box.
  2. If the person does not yet have an account on your system, choose the "Account Creator" item of the "User Manager" menu. Fill out the first line of the form with a username, their name, their email address, and then check the "Make Admin" box. Scroll down and click "Add Users". They'll be emailed their logon information.

Partial Administrators

You can grant partial administrative access to a given user over some areas of the site without giving them full rights over everything. To assign partial administrative rights to a given user:
  1. Go to the "User Directory" item of the "User Manager" menu of your administration bar.
  2. Locate the user in the list, then click the "Edit" link in the "Actions" column next to the user.
  3. If the user is not already a global administrator, you'll see some checkboxes under the "Permissions" section of this page. Check the relevant boxes, and click "Save Changes" to give them admin rights to these areas.
Not all areas of the site currently support this, so you may need to give global administration rights if you don't see the area of the site in the list. The current areas supported are: news categories, photo galleries, ministries/groups, and calendars.
